At Simon Horn we always return to the spirit of the original; using antique pieces, museum references and period prints as inspiration. This painstaking research is reflected in the style and quality of the end product.  
Being crafted with great care and attention to detail, our furniture will certainly pass the test of time, particularly because we take account of the fact that wood is natural, and can move, swell and shrink, particularly in modern centrally heated and air-conditioned homes. We minimise the impact of this with traditional methods of construction: joints are fashioned for durability and solid panels set with room for movement, avoiding the cracking and warping that furniture constructed using more modern methods can suffer in a dry environment.

Materials

We source the finest timber, showing the best grain and figuring. Using only these top quality timbers has cost implications, but you get what you pay for. The trend to use veneers – which Simon Horn largely avoids – means that beauty really can at times be just skin deep. A scratch can ruin a piece, whereas furniture made from solid wood will only improve with age.

Finishing

Bespoke finishing brings our furniture to life, and makes it truly yours.  As well as a specialist French polisher near St Malo, we have our own craft workshop in London, where we can polish, paint and upholster to create finishes in any colour or fabric.  We like to use traditional upholstery techniques in our headboards and chairs, with fine curled horse and cattle tail - to give the best feel and longest life.  Our experts hand paint to your colour palette and provide the right level of distressing and patinas.  Our experienced restorer is also on hand to bring your antiques and damaged pieces back to their former glory. 

Doing our own hand finishing is the best way to offer the widest choice to our clients and it allows us to lead the market in terms of style.  You’ll discover that the same piece can look dramatically different depending on the choice of finish - be it polish, wax, paint, lacquer or upholstery.  And you can bring a piece of our furniture back for a new finish, and a different look, next year, next decade, whenever.
